Fire raged when the Netherlands’ first streetgrass formation The Pedro Delgados got divorced. But from the ashes, arose a mighty power trio – a phoenix equipped to fight the good fight for yet another day. Armed with strings of steel and wrought from thick sheets of lead, they called themselves ‘Leadbeaters’. These three upright and swaggering dudes thought they could keep it casual, but soon they were cruising down folked-up highways on a weekly basis.
With a raw mix of American traditionals, old-time, blues, bluegrass, folk and gospel, these musical butchers cut to the chase and give voice to freeloaders, beggars, troublemakers, misfits and the just plain hopeless (yes, you).
At first, they did this with banjo, guitar, stand-up bass and vocals. But their hearts and podiums – as well as this EP – proved large enough to include other passionate musical brethren. On this particular slab of sounds we hear Alan McLachlan (The Scene/Sjako) on slide, mandolin and piano, Donné Lafontaine (T99) on ukulele, and Bone – an old Pedro with a musical heart that never stops beating, drumming, blowing and strumming.
With love for old iron, old souls and old ears, we present to you: your Leadbeaters.
